ALTERATION
Situated in the historic centre of Linlithgow, this two-storey cottage dating from 1892 has been carefully renovated to enhance its long-term use while respecting its historic character. Two later, unsympathetic extensions were removed as part of a considered programme of improvement.
A sensitively designed wraparound extension, ranging between 1.5 and 2 storeys, has been introduced to the side and rear elevations. The scale and massing were carefully developed to remain subordinate to the original cottage, while allowing for improved internal circulation and the provision of appropriate contemporary living accommodation.
A private courtyard has been formed off the shared access, creating a discreet and sheltered external space and enabling access to a generously sized triple garage. Public and private access points are clearly defined to minimise impact on the historic setting whilst maintaining privacy and security.
The extension is constructed using SIPs panel technology and finished externally in a restrained palette of hand-crafted sandstone, Cedral Click weatherboarding, and Scottish slate, selected to complement the materials and character of the original building and its surroundings.
"From our very first meeting after a lengthy conversation with
Mark , my husband and I know he was the architect for us . Mark's passion and design go above and beyond; his attention to detail is second to none . Mark worked very closely with us, step by step, explaining every procedure... My husband and I would have NO HESITATION in recommending Pink Architecture."
