CONVERSION

This project involved the sensitive re-working of a 1.5-storey traditional sandstone villa, previously compromised by a poorly conceived and characterless rear extension that blocked valuable south-facing views over the mature walled garden adjoining Limefield Church of Scotland.

The design strategy focused on unlocking the inherent potential of the site. The existing small kitchen extension was removed and replaced with a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, carefully orientated towards the garden. Large sliding-folding doors create a strong visual and physical connection to a new terraced patio, flooding the interior with natural light and allowing the garden to become an extension of the open plan living space.

A new fully glazed entrance link was introduced to the rear side, connecting the main house with a substantial existing outbuilding and completing the enclosure of the walled garden. This link enabled a rationalisation of circulation within the original house, maximising usable floor area while providing a direct, practical connection to a new utility room located within the outbuilding.

A planning application has recently been submitted for the conversion of the remaining outbuilding to form a self-contained granny annexe, further enhancing the long-term adaptability and value of the property.
